Apple’s iPhone releases are some of the biggest tech news: and we’re due for another release soon. The iPhone 14 was launched in September of 2022, which leads many to believe the latest model will follow suit in 2023. Many expect four releases at once: iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max. There are also rumors of a future iPhone 15 Ultra model, to be released in 2024.

But what will be different for the iPhone 15? Is it worth investing in? Let’s take a look at what the rumors say and decide for ourselves.

No More Lightning Ports

One of the biggest changes we may see in the new iPhone is a transition from the traditional iPhone charging port to a USB-C port. This is likely because of new legislation passed by the European Parliament back in 2022, requiring tech manufacturers to adopt the USB-C charging port by 2024. This iPhone release will be Apple’s last chance to comply with the EU’s new law, so many are looking at the next generation of iPhone expectantly.

More Storage—But at a Price

One of the biggest factors in pricing for the iPhone (and many other tech products) is the storage capacity. It’s been reported that the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max models will start at 256GB worth of storage, rather than the standard 128GB seen in the iPhone 14 Pro and earlier models. Some are even saying that the iPhone 15 Pro Max will offer up to 2TB of storage, which may push the model above $2,000 in price.

Replacing the Mute Switch

Leaked photos of phone cases rumored to fit the iPhone 15 have shown a button in the place of the mute switch located on the side of the phone. This Action button will follow the functions of the Action button on newer models of the Apple Watch. Available for the Pro and Ultra models, this Action button will be programmable to perform various functions, depending on the user’s preferences and needs.

Honorable Mentions

We’ve covered some of the bigger rumors surrounding the iPhone 15, but not all of them. Here are some other features sources have released about the next generation of iPhones:

Variable Zoom: the iPhone 15 Ultra may feature a camera with a ‘variable zoom’ lens. This continuous zoom isn’t common among smartphones, which will be a huge upgrade for iPhone users.

Easier-to-Repair Hardware: sources have mentioned that Apple manufacturers have gone back to the drawing board to rework the internals of the new model. The iPhone 15 is rumored to have removable rear glass, a more accessible screen for repairs, and a titanium shell for more durability.

More Color Options: the iPhone 15 is rumored to be available in hot pink and blue, alongside the standard black, white, and PRODUCT(RED) color options.

Though these are all just rumors, Stay tuned for future news on the next generation of iPhone, rumored to release in Mid-September of this year.
